Saving the world, together, one day at a time.
Why Net Zero Initiatives Will Never Be Enough
Johan Rockström is a Swedish scientist, internationally recognized for his work on global sustainability issues.
He is joint director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, and one of the world's leading experts on climate change.

He has stated that...
"There needs to be a symphony of action
that brings together
SCIENCE, POLITICS, BUSINESS and CITIZENRY,
if we are to arrest global warming
and avert disaster."
SCIENCE has clearly, repeatedly and unequivocally
told us what we need to do.
"WE NEED TO CHANGE
OUR DIET"
But POLITICIANS are too afraid to act upon the advice.
And BUSINESSES focus almost universally and exclusively upon CO2 Net Zero initiatives, because CO2 emissions are the ones that they produce.
Even these initiatives are subject to delays and all too often seem to fall behind on the vital target dates (which should have been achieved by 2030).
While paying no attention to the impact our food choices have on GWP gas emissions - something that is vastly misunderstood, or ignored.
Did you know that as much as a colossal 25% of the source of GWP gas emissions are not from CO2 at all?
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), they come from Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N20) and Fluorinated Gases.
And the vast majority of CH4 and N2O is produced directly from the animal agriculture industry.
In other words, as a result of our dietary choice to eat animals.
But CH4 and N20 represent less than 1/4 of total GWP emissions, so does it really matter when businesses globally are acting to achieve Net Zero?
Well, quite apart from the leisurely pace at which Net Zero initiatives progress (because after all, business must come before saving the planet…
There's another bit that most people don't know, don't understand or conveniently ignore.

This table shows how much heat each gas traps relative to CO2 . As you can see...
CH4 is 25 times, and N2O is 300
times worse in its impact than CO2
In other words, the 22% of GWP gases produced as a direct result of our food choices are killing our planet faster than all of the CO2 those laudable Net Zero initiatives are trying to save us from.
Effectively, all the good Net Zero hopes to do is being, and will be, undone while we’re afraid to deal with the thing we absolutely MUST change.
Which is precisely why Net Zero is never going to be enough, and why all of those scientists and learned bodies are telling us that we must change our diet!
Yet bizarrely, while time is running out for all of us to save our planet, nobody is actively doing anything to engage the support of the one group that we desperately need to be involved...
CITIZENRY
(Just as Johan Rockström has told us!)
Scientists warn us that to avert irreparable damage to our planet, we need to change our dietary habits
